Trump's Business Sought to Bring In Nearly 200 Workers on Work Permits in 2025

The former president’s family business accelerated its hiring of foreign workers on temporary visas this period, while his administration was placing obstacles for other businesses wanting to do the same, a report published recently stated.

According to information from the US Department of Labor, the Trump Organization sought to bring in at least 184 foreign workers in 2025 for short-term roles at the US president’s Mar-a-Lago resort, two golf clubs and his Virginia winery.

The quantity of applications for H-2A and H-2B visas for staff including waitstaff, office assistants, housekeepers, kitchen staff and agricultural laborers was the highest ever filed by the company, and up from 121 in the previous term, when Trump’s first term ended.

It was also the fifth time in a decade that Trump had attempted to hire more than 100 foreign employees for seasonal jobs at Mar-a-Lago, according to available data.

The revelation comes amid a tightening on immigration laws by his government that has involved the implementation of a substantial charge on H1-B visas; increased review of the activities of the 55 million people who already hold US visas; and restrictive new rules for foreign students and reporters.

In total, the business sought to hire over 560 overseas workers over the five years Trump has been in the White House, from 2017 to 2021 and during 2025.

Notably, Trump was criticized by certain in the Republican party this week for comments justifying the necessity for overseas employees when a business was unable to find people with “particular skills” to fill particular roles.

“You can’t just say a nation is entering, going to invest $10bn to construct a plant, and going to recruit individuals off an unemployment line who have been unemployed in years, and they’re going to start making their defense systems. It isn’t feasible that well,” he told a host after it was implied that foreign workers lower the pay of US workers.

The administration declined a inquiry for response, and the Trump Organization did not provide an answer to an request for information.
