Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Posted on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver missed the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
