Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the initial names under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.
The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday after the squad's ten-game winless start to the top-flight campaign.
And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous associations to the team - are part of the names to be considered by the club leadership.
The manager is presently at another club, which would pose a possible hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.
Nevertheless the ex- Luton manager - who made more than 100 of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.
The 42-year-old is said to have support from the Wolves directors as they start the search of appointing a fresh manager.
O'Neil is additionally appearing as a surprise candidate, although he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by the club in December last year.
