Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been released from care, Nigerian authorities confirmed on late Wednesday. The fighter was part of a serious road collision in the Lagos area on the 29th of December, a tragic incident that claimed the lives of two of his valued colleagues.

Under Observation for Minor Injuries

The boxer had been under observation while recuperating from non-critical injuries, his promoter stated earlier on Monday. The Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement on X that Joshua was judged healthy enough to continue his recovery at home.

“Anthony and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to say their last goodbyes to his two departed friends as they were being readied to be sent home,” the commissioner stated.

Honoring the Deceased

Those who lost their lives were identified as Latif Ayodele, Joshua's trainer, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. Omotoso added that the champion was filled with sorrow and full of emotions over the passing of his two trusted companions.”

This update on his health follows the boxing community offered condolences for the fighter in the aftermath of the devastating accident.
